Do Permanent Dentures Need To Be Replaced?

Dentures are one of the most sought-after ways of fixing any dental anomalies. Although you may have been fed the concept of dentures as a permanent solution, the truth is that permanent dentures don’t exist. Your face, gums, and jaw changes shape and size over the rigid, and dentures are not amenable to such transitions, owing to their rigid structure. It is in such a context that replacement and reparation come into the picture.

When to Replace a Permanent Denture?
It would be helpful if you considered replacing your dentures in case of one of the following circumstances.

  1. Loose Fit: If your dentures have turned loose and dodgy, their functionality becomes minimized. Loose dentures are a consequence of bone resorption, which happens when you grow old. You can resolve the problem by replacing or relining your dentures.
  2. Tight Fit: At times, your dentures may feel tight due to the various changes happening in your mouth. Thus, if you think of some tightening and stretching in your dentures, then you should consider replacing or relining them.
  3. Broken Teeth or Broken Components: Few acrylic and metal components of your dentures may chip and break with time, and this is when you should replace or repair your dentures.
  4. Teeth Loss: There may be a situation when one or more denture teeth are lost, and you will require new prosthetics as a replacement.
  5. Stained Dentures: Lastly, if your dentures have become stained or dirty, you should consider replacement as no amount of work will restore their original sheen.

It is noteworthy to mention that permanent dentures are more or less a marketing gimmick, and you will require replacement and reparations in due course of time. But, simultaneously, it is vital to remember that your dentures will last you anywhere between 10 to 20 years in normal circumstances.
